Child Support & Enforcement
If the payor spouse (i.e., the parent who is obligated to pay support to the other parent) fails to pay child support, many remedies can be undertaken to enforce the obligation. Wages can be garnished, property sequestered and sold, and a money judgment can be entered against the payor spouse. In extreme cases, a spouse who refuses to pay support can be held in contempt, fined and jailed, and that spouse's business, professional, recreational and driver's licenses can be suspended. Of course, there are sometimes legitimate reasons for the failure to pay.
